Halloween is a time for dressing up, celebrating and getting silly.

But it's also a day on which, according to safekids.org, children are two times as likely to be hit by a car.

That's why we wanted to share safekids.org's important safety reminders with our audience in anticipation of this fun holiday.

Before you head out with your kids, discuss and remind them about the following important points:

1. Cross the street at corners.

2. Look left & right before crossing.

3. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.

4. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic far to the side.

And, remind your friends and family on Halloween to slow down and be more alert during trick-or-treating times.

We've also put together a list of local Halloween celebrations that families can enjoy in addition to trick-or-treating.
