North Point Lighthouse in Lake Park Reopening May 1, 2021

The historic North Point Lighthouse will reopen May 1, 2021 after being closed for over a year due to the pandemic.

With a government-approved safety plan in place, they will open their doors to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Masks are mandatory and social distancing is encouraged.

The North Point Lighthouse is located between two ravines in Lake Park on two acres. It has a 74-foot tower and a Queen Anne-style Keeper’s Quarters, along with a small museum that houses maritime artifacts and history. It’s one of the oldest structures that stands in the now-urban area.

The lighthouse is home to maritime artifacts and exhibits for all ages.

Since 1855, it has beamed out light to protect and guide ships and watercraft, and facilitate water travel and commerce on Lake Michigan. Keepers and their families lived and worked at the North Point Light Station. You can learn about them along the Keeper's Wall in the museum section, along with other artifacts and exhibits about maritime history.

Visitors can also climb the tower for a spectacular view of the surrounding area. Visitors must be at least 5 years old and at least 38 inches tall to climb the tower.

Visitors can take a selfie with the lighthouse using a mirror on the grounds.

Before or after your visit, you can walk around beautiful Lake Park, conceived and rendered in 1893 by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who designed the U.S. Capitol Grounds and Central Park.
